Several city parks in both Pismo and Shell Beach are perfect for viewing numerous bird species, sea otters, seals, tidepool inhabitants and even migrating whales (in season). The Pismo and Oceano Dunes are home to several rare and endangered species. Frequent guided dune habitat nature walks are offered all year by State Park Docents. Giant elephant seals haul out in huge colonies on beaches near Piedras Blancas Lighthouse, north of Cambria. The Pismo Marsh, Dinosaur Cave Park and Chumash Park are planned future projects for public use.
